Rolling stairs in Antwerp. I was there last week to go to a houseparty. I woke up early to have a walk through the city and to photograph some things there. For half a year I have lived in Antwerp so I know the city pretty well... These are the rolling stairs to the tunnel under the Schelde. Very old and as you can see only the right stairs are running. The left stairs were broken because they're very old... I didn't bring my tripod so it was difficult to get good pictures in this room without good lights, but I'm satisfied with this picture

				Carbide shooting (2)

			<![CDATA[
Just like the picture of yesterday, the carbide shooting tradition in the netherlands. Last night I was in Kampen (NL). Every year it's a tradition in the Netherlands that some people go 'carbid schieten'. We've got a strong iron milk barrel of 40 litres (those cans were used by farmers in the past to transport the milk) and the carbide and a little bit of water. The water and carbide give a chemical reaction and it creates acetylenegas. Put the iron lid (or safer, a ball) on top so the barrel fills itself with the gas. Hit the Hold a lighter (or safer, a blow torch) at the little hole in the bottom of the can and you'll get a huge explosion and a very loud deafening bang!! The lid will be blown away for approx. 75 metres, but if you attach an old trouser at the lid it will be only 10 - 20 metres. Safer for in the streets and you don't have to walk a lot to get the lid. Some people light it with a stick, the real man go sit on the can and if you're totally not afraid you hold it under your arms... Normally people only go shooting with carbide on the last day of the year, but the die-hards in Kampen do it the whole last week of the year!! Sleepless nights for the neighbours! Officially it is illegal, but the police won't do anything about it the last day of the year. If they would do, people would resist, because they want to keep this tradition alive... Well, here's a picture right where the action is!! (Tomorrow there'll be a picture from aside) And here you can see over 20 pictures I made last night from the carbide shooting

Well... first time I show a bit of myself here... And as you see, I look like a ghost.. Made with the shutter open for 30 seconds, that's why I look like a ghost.. When I pressed the button I walked to the fence and stood like this and counted the seconds without moving. Just another experiment. I'm satisfied with the result
